Bowling opens season with 3rd and 8th at Hawk Invitational

UTICA, NY – The Herkimer Generals bowling program had a solid open to the season on Sunday (1/17) with the women finishing third (8350) and the men finishing eighth (8977).

Leading the way for the women was Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY). The freshman finished second overall in All-Events, totaling 1767 pins over an eight game set which averages to 220. She did not post a game under 200, finishing third in singles and fifth in doubles with Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY).

Staying with singles, Korena Kinney (Taberg, NY) finished 17th (738), Megan Durgan (Rome, NY) finished 23rd (687), Buck finished 24th (680) and Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY) finished 30th (1176).

As for the men, Hunter Guest (Middleburgh, NY) claimed 28th overall in All-Events, finishing with 1669 pins. He then paired with Ean Hayner (Kingston, NY), watching both come in ninth (1655), the only Top 10 finish by the men on Sunday. Hayner also did well in singles, posting an 800 over four games. Guest followed with 780, Matt Gladstone (Norwich, NY) had 773, Brendon Budd (Norwich, NY) had 759, Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY) had 706 and Marshall Sterling (Mohawk, NY) had 704.

The team will be back in action on Wednesday (1/20), traveling to Schenectady County Community College. Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
