Sterling and Kinney shine for Generals at regionals

UTICA, NY – The Herkimer Generals bowling program traveled to AMF Pin-O-Rama for the third time this season on Sunday (2/14), this time for the Region III Championship Tournament, finishing in fourth and seventh place overall, seeing some solid individual performances.

For the women, Korena Kinney (Taberg, NY) and Alysha Buck (Syracuse, NY) placed well, watching Kinney finish in the Top 10 with a 1309 in All-Events. The freshman bowled a 660 in singles, then paired with Buck to bowl a 540 in doubles. As for Buck, the sophomore placed 19th in All-Events. Helping her to that was a 694 in singles which was good enough for eighth place and a 506 in doubles.

Rounding out the women was Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY), Megan Durgan (Rome, NY) and Ashley Salisbury (Sherrill, NY). McGuire finished 20th in All-Events (1235), Durgan finished 21st (1224) and Salisbury finished in 28th (1161).

Standing out for the men was sophomore Marshall Sterling (Mohawk, NY), finishing 12th overall after a 771 in singles and 559 in doubles. Behind Sterling was Matt Gladstone (Solvay, NY) in 13th place. The freshman totaled 1494 in All-Events, bowling a 694 in singles and 800 in doubles when he paired with Brendon Budd (Solvay, NY). Budd finished 27th in All-Events after a 711 in singles and 690 in doubles.

The final three male bowlers were Hunter Guest (Middleburgh, NY), Ean Hayner (Kingston, NY) and Stephen Cross (Ilion, NY). Guest finished 30th in All-Events (1381), Hayner finished 47th (1279) and Cross finished 52nd (1174).

The bowling program will continue their season next week at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga, NY. Erie Community College will be the host for the 2016 National Bowling Championship. The three day competition will begin on Thursday, March 25th and conclude on Saturday, March 27th.
