Campanian wins Bridgeman Invitational

CANANDAIGUA, NY – Improving on her third place finish last week, Herkimer's Victoria Campanian (Glenfield, NY) finished in first place (20:27) Saturday at the Bridgeman Invitational, hosted by Finger Lakes Community College.

Campanian and her fellow teammates finished within the top 30 spots at the Invitational, securing second place overall. Finishing behind Campanian was Tianderah Twichell (West Winfield, NY) in 17th, Ashley Dennis (Cooperstown, NY) in 18th, Renee Hamilton(Herkimer, NY), in 21st and Dayonna Williams (Bronx, NY) in 27th. Times were 26:11, 26:26, 27:10 and 32:44.

"Today was a solid race for our women, considering we face many regional and national competitors," said Women's Head Coach Julie DelMedico. "I'm hoping we can build on this race and improve every week."

The women's collective score was 84; 54 points behind Mohawk Valley Community College, two points ahead of Lorrain Community College and numerous points ahead of Onondaga Community College, Broome Community College and Finger Lakes Community College who finished with incomplete scores.

The men had two runners, Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY) and Erick Febus (Hannibal, NY), finish in the top 10. Morrett finished eighth (29:54) and Febus finished 10th (30:25). On pace with Morrett and Febus was Brandon Rawson (Ilion, NY), until he sustained an injury during the competition. Rawson was able to finish, but the injury took several minutes off his usual time. Rawson finished 39th with a time of 37:51.

Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY), Rony LeRouge (Walton, NY), David Stanley (Bronx, NY) and DaQuan Corbitt (Central Islip, NY) finished 40th, 43rd, 45th and 51st respectively for the Generals. Tanner crossed at 38:40, LeRouge crossed at 39:40, Stanley crossed at 41:05 and Corbitt crossed at 44:42.

The Generals next race is this coming Sunday (9/22). Both the men and women will participate in the Falling Leaves Road Race in Utica, NY. Times in this event will not be a part of the NJCAA Division III. Race time is scheduled for 8:50 a.m.
