Generals dart for second place

DELHI, NY – With 10 days off, the well rested Herkimer Generals' Cross Country team went to SUNY Delhi Wednesday afternoon and had both men and women finish in second place, their best collective finish thus far into the season.

No stranger to tough competition, seeing numerous meets against NCAA level athletes, the Generals faced all NJCAA programs in the 16th Annual Bronco Weekday Classic. Other participants were: SUNY Delhi, Broome Community College and Bryant & Stratton College (NY).

For the women, they faced SUNY Delhi. Running away from the competition for the second time this season was Victoria Campanian(Glenfield, NY), winning it for her team with a time of 20:15. It was Campanian's fourth top-five finish this season.

Behind Campanian was teammates Tianderah Twichell (West Winfield, NY), Ashley Dennis (Cooperstown, NY), Alicia Burnett (Old Forge, NY), Dayonna Williams (Bronx, NY), Renee Hamilton (Herkimer, NY), Emily Boedigheimer-Alicea (Albany, NY) and Tahentahawi Chubb (Akwesasne, NY). Twichell finished 11th (24:37), Dennis finished 13th (26:23), Burnett finished 15th (26:41), Williams finished 16th (26:43), Hamilton finished 18th (26:48), Boedigheimer-Alicea finished 22nd (28:34) and Chubb finished 25th (30:36).

The men, who competed against SUNY Delhi, Broome and Bryant & Stratton, saw three runners finish in the top 10. They were Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY), Erick Febus (Hannibal, NY) and Brandon Rawson (Ilion, NY). It was each runners second Top 10 finish this season. Morrett placed 2nd (17:44), Febus placed 4th (17:53) and Rawson finished 7th (18:02).

Yuta Shinohara (Hiratsuka, Japan), Ashanti Davis (East Greenbush, NY), Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY), Ronny LeRouge (Walton, NY),David Stanley (Bronx, NY) and DaQuan Corbitt (Central Islip, NY) also ran for the men. Shinohara finished 13th (18:23), Davis finished 23rd (19:28), Tanner finished 37th (21:25), LeRouge finished 40th (22:35), Stanley finished 42nd (22:51) and Corbitt finished 49th (25:26).

Herkimer will host the Mountain Valley Conference Championship next weekend, October 19th at Herkimer County Community College. Before that, the team will run the Alexandra Kogut Memorial 5K on Saturday, October 12th. The road race and charity walk both start at 10 a.m.
