Cross Country has last gear up before MVC Championship

CLINTON, NY – In their last regular season meet the Herkimer Generals cross country team competed at the Hamilton College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday (10/11). The men finished 15th overall and the women finished 13th.

The Generals had six men compete against 17 other institutions which included NCAA DIII competition. With the talent deep, Herkimer saw their men finish between 101st and 172nd overall. Sam Morrett (Cohoes, NY) was the Generals top finisher, coming in 101st, running 29:23.5. After Morrett followed Daniel Thomas (Coton, UK), Jace LaPuma (Little Falls, NY), Gregory Ashe (Watertown, NY), Philip Tanner (Deposit, NY) and Josh Paoni (Herkimer, NY). Thomas finished 138th (31:07.0), LaPuma finished 146th (31:21.5), Ashe finished 148th (31:30.0), Tanner finished 165th (34:33.5) and Paoni finished 172nd (37:37.5).

The women, just like the men, competed against NCAA DIII student-athletes, having their six participants span from 12th to 154th overall. Taking top honors was Victoria Campanian (Glenfield, NY). The sophomore ran her fastest time of the season, posting an 18:17.1 which gave her 12th overall. After Campanian was Haruka Murakami (Ibaraki, Japan), Tianderah Twichell (West Winfield, NY), Sharon E. Howell (Ilion, NY), Alicia Burnett (Inlet, NY) and Jessica Inserra (Yorkville, NY). Murakami finished 75th (18:17.1), Twichell finished 117th (21:50.1), Howell finished 132nd (22:34.1), Burnett finished 140th (23:29.8) and Inserra finished 154th (27:34.4).

Herkimer’s next race day will be the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) Championship on Saturday, October 18th. This year’s host is Hudson Valley Community College. Morrett and Campanian will look to go back-to-back as MVC Champs.
