Lady Generals cooling after hot start

HERKIMER, NY – After a two-game win streak to start the season, the Lady Generals have lost some momentum with a 1-0 loss to Onondaga Community College in overtime on Tuesday and 0-0 tie to Genesee Community College in double overtime Thursday.

Herkimer (2-1-1) played hard against the Cougars on their home field Thursday afternoon. Both sides played rather evenly in the first half, seeing pushes from each offense on occasion.

Play started to get a little chippy in the 17th minute of the second half, having players from both teams peel themselves off the turf as play continued on.

Shortly after that, Kalli Warmingham (Newport, NY) almost found teammate Jennie Maxwell (Newport, NY) on the left-side of the net, from the right corner, but Maxwell was unable to gather herself enough to get a left foot on the ball. It was Herkimer's best chance in the half to score.

Genesee threatened twice on corner kicks after the 42nd minute, but Herkimer was able to stay disciplined and clear the ball when needed.

The Lady Generals have already amassed eight halves and three overtimes of play during the first six days of their season. The team shouldn't see that much field time for the rest of the season, having at least three days off in-between games from here on.

With 10 days of rest coming, Herkimer should have fresh legs when they take on Niagara Community College on Sunday, September 15th. The Thunder Wolves will host the Generals with a 1 p.m. start.
