The 2017 season is P.J. Anadio’s eighth at the helm of the Generals’ softball program. The 2016, 2015 and 2014 campaign saw the team finish second in the nation after their first NJCAA DIII National Championship in 2013 where the team went 43-2 overall. In 2016, the program won their most games in a season, accumulating a 46-7 record.

Since Anadio took over the program in 2010, the Generals - through tireless work on the field, in the community and especially the classroom - have earned the reputation of being one of the top programs at an athletically and academically rich institution. In 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, Anadio was named Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference of the Year, adding Region III Coach of the Year honors in 2011 and 2013. Anadio’s entire staff was recognized in 2013 by the NFCA as the National Coaching Staff of the Year.

In his short tenure, Anadio has led Herkimer to an overall record of 254-54, guiding all seven teams into the Region III playoff tournament. In the last six seasons, Herkimer made it all the way to the regional Final Four, finally breaking through in 2012 for its first Region III Championship in 14 years. That run ended in the NJCAA World Series, where the team finished fifth in the nation, giving the Generals five Top 10 finishes the last four years. In those six seasons, Herkimer put together a 73-2 record in Mountain Valley Conference play en route to six conference championships and five regional championships. All six campaigns have produced numerous accolades and accomplishments in record breaking style.

Prior to the 2010 season, Herkimer had two student-athletes in the history of the program named All-Americans. Since that inaugural 2010 season under Anadio’s tutelage, Herkimer has placed a total of 23 young women –  Kayla Ladd (’10,’11), Emily Woudenberg (’11), Krista Oakes (’11), Abby Black (’12), Jess Patterelli (’12, '13), Steph Siriano (’12, '13), Andrea Rogers (’12), Sammy Smaldone ('13, ‘14), Delaney Buckley ('13), Toni Secreti ('13, ‘14), Ashley Sterritt (’14), Sarah Heimbach (’14), Brittany Ormond ('15), Elyssa LeBaron ('15, '16), Taylor Daniels ('16), Dana Nicoletti ('16) and Sydney Cimini ('16) – on NJCAA All-American teams.

In 2011, Herkimer also placed five student-athletes on the first team All-Region team, one on the second team, and seven on the All-Conference Team. In 2012, Herkimer once again placed five student-athletes on the first team All-Region and six more on the All-Conference Team. In 2013, the Generals had five first team All-Region players and seven All-Conference selections. In 2014, Herkimer had four first team and one second team All-Region and seven All-Conference selections. In 2015, Herkimer had four first team and one second team All-Region and five All-Conference selections. In 2016, Herkimer had five first team All-Region and seven All-Conference selections.

In addition to all the on-the-field accolades the 2012 and 2013 teams piled up, they were also recognized by the NJCAA as being one of a few teams, and the only NYS junior college team, to have a team GPA above 3.0.

Before taking over the softball program, Anadio had served as Herkimer’s assistant baseball coach since 2007. In his first season as assistant coach, Coach PJ helped lead Herkimer to a 35-8 record and a third-place finish in the World Series. Along with on-the-field responsibilities, Coach PJ acted as Recruiting Coordinator for the program. In addition to coaching baseball, Anadio was also an assistant on the men’s basketball team under Head Coach Matt Lee for three seasons, helping guide the Generals back to the National Championships in 2010 for the first time in over 20 years. In addition to his current softball responsibilities, Anadio is also the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the college.

Anadio played high school baseball at Gloversville High School, where he was a three-year starter for the varsity team. Anadio transferred to Herkimer College from Hartwick College and was named a two-year captain for the baseball team under coach Hank Testa. As a freshman, he batted .389 for the Generals and was selected to the All-Mountain Valley Conference Team in 2000. Anadio played with current head baseball coach Jason Rathbun that season, when Herkimer qualified for the Region III playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Anadio was a very successful student in the classroom where he received numerous honors. He earned Academic All-American, was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was named to Who's Who Among American Junior College Students.

Anadio is employed as a technical assistant in the Athletic Department, serving as the Director of Intramurals and as the Certified Pool Operator. He previously worked at Fulton-Montgomery Community College where he assisted well-respected coach Mike Mulligan for three seasons. He resides in Herkimer, NY with his wife Jamie and his son Evan.
