Generals finish Cannoneers in 10 innings total
Watertown, NY—Herkimer Softball takes two more Region III wins in their doubleheader versus Jefferson Community College this Tuesday afternoon. The Generals came out strong in the first inning of both games scoring four runs to start out the first game and batted around the lineup for nine runs to start the second game. As a team the Generals hit 24 for 49 with 23 runs. Freshman Shannon Moore (Norwich, NY) had 3 RBIs. Sophomore Molly McGuire (Syracuse, NY) hit a double, a homerun and earned three RBIs. Leadoff hitter sophomore #5 Taylor Fry (Gasport, NY) went 3 for 5 on the day with 4 runs and swiped 3 bags. “An all-around great team day” says assistant coach Emily Woudenberg. The Generals were especially proud of the pitching staff as sophomore Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) earned the first win with 8 strikeouts as Herkimer took game one 13-5 in five innings. Freshman Keeanna Wolcik (Baldwinsville, NY) was just two outs away from a perfect game as she left one rise ball in the zone and it was hit over the fence by Jefferson third baseman Natalie Wicks in game two. Final score of game two was 10-1 also in five innings. The Generals look to keep the success rolling as they travel to Columbia Greene on Thursday for a doubleheader at 3 & 5 p.m.
