Softball Splits with Genesee
Batavia, NY-- This weekend the Herkimer Generals softball team traveled across the state to face Genesee Community College Saturday April 22, and Niagara Sunday April 23rd. Saturday the Generals split with Genesee, the first Region III team to take down Herkimer all season. Head coach PJ Anadio told his players after the first game, "that's the game sometimes, that is the beauty of our sport. They had the timely hits and we didn't. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to your opponent." This first game sophomore #12 Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) was in the circle and gave up three hits but struck out six. The Generals had nine hits this first game but left eight of them stranded on base. The Generals fell 2-1 in game one.
Herkimer remained focused on the task at hand and came back with a vengeance 5-1 over the Cougars in game two. In the circle for the Generals was freshman #55 Keeanna Wolcik (Baldwinsville, NY) who gave up five hits but struck out 12. This win brings Wolcik's record to an impressive 12-0. The Generals strung together ten hits in game two. At the top of the lineup sophomore Taylor Fry (Gasport, NY) went 3-4 with three RBIs.
