Softball sweeps first conference member Saturday

HERKIMER, NY – Building on their impressive sweep of #9 Onondaga last week, the Herkimer Generals softball team swept their second straight series Saturday (4/11) at Harmon Field, defeating conference foe SUNY Adirondack 8-0 and 13-0 at Harmon Field.

In game one Herkimer (7-7) collected 10 hits in seven innings, giving starter Amy Hart (Little Falls, NY) a 2-0 lead after the first. The team eventually broke it open in the fifth with four runs scored to make it 8-0, but it didn’t faze Hart, as the freshman got the complete game shutout for her first win of the season.   

In game two the Generals tallied their sixth double digit run total of the season, aided by home runs by Kayla Bancroft (Fort Ann, NY) and Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY). Bancroft went 2-for-4 with 3RBI, while Brone went 1-for-3 with 2RBI, helping starter Ashley Marshall (Oneida, NY) to settle in an collect another complete game shutout for the Generals. Marshall went five strong innings.

Herkimer’s next doubleheader is Sunday (4/12). They’ll take on DII Monroe Community College at Harmon Field. Game times are 1 & 3 p.m.
