Softball ends Vikings season with 8-3 win

ROCHESTER, MN – Facing #6 Hudson Valley for the second consecutive day and fourth time this season, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team used 13 hits, five of them of the extra base variety to remain undefeated against the Vikings this season (4-0), winning 8-3 on Saturday (5/16).

Herkimer (38-8) never trailed in this one with the Vikings unable to stop the Generals top four batters. Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY), Karintha Myslivecek (Redfield, NY), Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) and Kayla Bancroft (Fort Ann, NY) combined to go 10-for-15 which helped Herkimer score in every inning but two, putting up three spots against Hudson Valley in the first and fourth.

Driving those runs in on Saturday was Daniels and Bancroft. Daniels led the team with four runs batted in while Bancroft was one behind her with three. Both players also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, giving Hudson’s Allison Ford her fifth loss of the season (17-5) in the process.

Starting for the third consecutive game in the national tournament was Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY). The sophomore collected her second win of the tournament in three starts, allowing three earned run off of seven hits in seven innings of work. It gave the right hander her 10th win of the season (10-3), only allowing five runs in 19 2/3 innings pitched at nationals.

Up next for the Generals is #1 Rock Valley. Herkimer will have to beat the Golden Eagles twice to become 2015 DIII National Champions. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST at McQuillan Sports Complex in Rochester, MN.
