Generals split final doubleheader of spring trip

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – In their last doubleheader of the spring trip on Thursday (3/19), the Herkimer Generals softball team split games with the College of Southern Maryland and Delaware Technical Community College, defeating the Hawks 12-4 and losing to the Hawks 5-2.

Herkimer (4-7) scored their most runs of the season in game one against Southern Maryland, racking up 14 hits, four of which were triples. It helped Karintha Myslivecek (Redfield, NY), Kayla Bancroft (Fort Ann, NY) and Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY) to multiple RBI. Each player had two runs batted in - seeing Myslivecek top all batters - go perfect from the plate (4-for-4) with a double, triple and one run scored.

The run support in game one helped freshman Ashley Marshall (Oneida, NY) to her first win of the season, allowing three earned runs off of nine hits in five innings.

Game two saw the Generals come back down to earth against the Hawks, totaling seven hits and two runs. It made it tough on starter Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY), allowing all five runs in her six innings pitched for her second loss of the season.

Offensively, Nicoletti was the only General to collect an RBI against Delaware Tech. The freshman went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one single and double.

Herkimer will continue the regular season on Tuesday, March 31st when they travel to SUNY Delhi to take on the Broncos. Their Saturday (3/28) doubleheader against Fulton-Montgomery had already been postponed due to poor field conditions. However, the Generals first conference doubleheader is slated to start at 3 and 5 p.m.
