Softball sweeps series with Hawks Thursday

(Dana Nicoletti threw a no hit shutout against the Hawks in game one, accumulating nine strikeouts).

(Molly McGuire went 1-for-2 in game two with two runs batted in against the Hawks on Thursday).

UTICA, NY – Only needing seven hits in each game of Thursday’s (3/31) doubleheader to shorter it to five innings, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team defeated Mohawk Valley 8-0 and 9-1.

Herkimer (13-4, 3-0) had two solid pitching performances from Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) and Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA). Each went the distance in their start, watching Nicoletti throw a one hit shutout and Boltersdorf allow one run from two hits. Nicoletti also had nine strikeouts to Boltersdorf’s five.

Offensively in game one, Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY) was the only General to get multiple RBI, finishing with two. After her, Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY), Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY), and Lindsey Parese (Herkimer, NY) tallied a run batted in.

In game two, Sydney Cimini (Syracise, NY) joined McGuire with two runs batted in, then Arianna Brone (Rochester, NY), Lacy Nealy (Montrose, PA), Daniels and Parese each drove in a run to give Herkimer a 3-0 record against the Hawks this season – outscoring them 32-to-5.

Up next for Herkimer is SUNY Broome, playing in their third consecutive away doubleheader on Tuesday (4/5). The Hornets are 0-2, losing both games to Genesee 10-5 and 15-1. Tuesday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
