Softball scores 33 runs in sweep of Panthers

(Taylor Daniels went 3-for-4 in game one against the Panthers with two RBI).

(Elyssa LeBaron went 4-for-5 in game one with three runs batted in against Tompkins Cortland).

HERKIMER, NY – Combining for 35 hits in the span of 10 innings on Saturday (4/16), the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team won their sixth consecutive game by outscoring Tompkins Cortland 33-to-0.

Herkimer 17-4 (5-0) had superb outings from Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) in game one and Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY) in game two. Nicoletti only allowed one hit in her complete game shutout, striking out 11 Panthers en route to her seventh win of the season (7-0). Hart was only one strike out behind Nicoletti, also throwing a one hit shutout in her second victory of the season.

Offensively, of the 35 hits, three of them were home runs. The first came from Nicoletti in game one when she ran around all of the bases for an in-the-park home run. She finished game one with six runs batted in, a season-high, going 4-for-4 at the plate. As for the other two, the came from Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY). The freshman hit two in the second game, going 3-for-4 in that game with three runs batted in.

Another player to accumulate three RBI was sophomore Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY). In game one the third baseman went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a double.
