Softball keeps it rolling on the road, 10 in a row

SYRACUSE, NY – Playing in their fourth doubleheader in six days Tuesday (4/19), the #2 Herkimer Generals softball still kept the win streak intact against Onondaga, defeating the Lazers 10-3 and 4-0 on the road.

Herkimer (21-4, 8-0) managed to score 10 or more runs for the seventh straight game with Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) on the mound in game one. It helped the sophomore stay undefeated on the season (7-0), allowing more than one earned run since facing Richard Bland in March. Nicoletti allowed three runs, two of them earned, striking out seven Lazers for her seventh complete game of the season.

Helping supply the offense for Nicoletti was Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY), Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY), Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY), Sydney Cimini (Syracuse, NY) and Hannah Desino (Pittsford, NY). Daniels led the way with three runs batted in - tallying her fifth home run of the season - going 1-for-3 at the plate. McGuire was one behind Daniels with two RBI, going 2-for-3. LeBaron, Cimini and Desino all finished with one run batted in.

In game two, the Lazers broke the Generals streak of seven games with double digit run support. It didn’t faze Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) however as the freshman pitched her second straight gem, only allowing two hits in seven innings of work. The left hander has only allowed two hits in her last 12 innings pitched, now with a 7-1 record on the season.

It took three innings for Boltersdorf to get a chance at the win, watching her offense score all four runs in their half of the fourth. Nicoletti, Daniels and Paige Crittela (Syracuse, NY) came up with the big hits. Nicoletti had two RBIs, while both Daniels and Crittela had one.

Up next for the softball team is Genesee. The Cougars are 8-9 overall but 3-1 in their last four games. Herkimer will host Genesee at Herkimer College on Saturday (4/23), giving the team some rest before they play seven games in nine days. Game times Saturday are 1 and 3 p.m.
