Win streak at 14 after sweep of Thunderwolves

(Elyssa LeBaron hit her seventh home run of the season in game two on Sunday, driving in two runs on the play).

HERKIMER, NY – Hosting their second doubleheader in back-to-back days yielded the same result on Sunday (4/24), as the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team defeated Niagara County 10-2 and 16-0, putting the current win streak at 14 games.

Herkimer (25-4, 7-0) rode starters Jacqueline Gardner (Syracuse, NY) and Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY) for the sweep. Gardner got the start in game one, and the freshman only allowed two runs from three hits. Neither run was earned as Gardner got her third win of the season (3-0). As for Hart, the right-hander pitched a gem, not allowing a run in her complete game shutout. She also struck out four batter, helping the sophomore to her third win of the season as well (3-1).

Tallying seven runs batted in during the doubleheader was Lacy Nealy (Montrose, PA). The freshman went 2-for-2 with four RBI in game one and 2-for-3 with three RBI in game two. The four RBI performance was a season-high, helping the freshman to 13 runs batted in on the season after her five plate appearances.

Getting four runs batted in during the doubleheader was Georgie Super (Poughkeepsie, NY). The left hander hit a grand slam in the second game which helped the Generals score eight runs in the fifth inning. Four RBI was also a season-high for Super, now with eight runs driven in on the season.

The team will have one day off before they travel to Corning, NY to take on the Red Barons Tuesday (4/26). Corning will be one of the hottest teams the Generals have faced this season, coming into the game with an eight game win streak. The Red Barons will host Herkimer in a doubleheader at 3 & 5 p.m. It will be a matchup of the best team in the region (Herkimer) versus the fourth best team.
