#2 Softball opens national tournament with 9-1 win over Vikings

ROCHESTER, MN – Scoring six runs in the second inning of Thursday’s (5/19) opening round NJCAA D3 National Tournament game helped the #2 Herkimer Generals move one step closer to their second national championship at McQuillan Softball Complex in Rochester, MN – defeating Central Lakes 9-1.

Herkimer (44-5, 13-0) saw Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY), Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) and Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY) come through in the second inning, giving Herkimer starter Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) a lead to play with in her first national appearance. Both LeBaron and McGuire had RBI singles while Daniels collected two, helping the Generals knock Central Lakes’ starter Autumn Roberts out of the game with the score at 7-0. LeBaron finished 2-for-4 with one RBI, Daniels finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and McGuire finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The big lead allowed Boltersdorf to cruise through the Raiders lineup, only facing 24 batters in her complete game effort. The freshman finished allowing one run off of four hits, striking out four batters, giving Boltersdorf 12 wins on the season.
