Daniels drives in four against #5 Lazers to advance in national tournament

ROCHESTER, MN – Racking up 13 hits against #5 Onondaga in Saturday’s (5/21) NJCAA D3 National Tournament game, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team advanced at McQuillan Sports Complex in Rochester, MN with an 8-5 win over the Lazers.

Herkimer (46-6, 16-0) managed to take control of the game in the fourth inning. Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) hit a triple which scored Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY) and Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY), watching Herkimer score four runs to take a 8-5 lead. The Region 3 Player of the Year finished with a game-high four RBI, going 2-for-4 at the plate. As for LeBaron, she finished 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot with three runs scored. As for Nicoletti, she went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pitching in the game for the Generals was Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY), Jacqueline Gardner (Syracuse, NY) and Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA). Hart started and went three innings before Gardner had to come in relief. Hart allowed five runs off of five hits, walking five Lazers in her appearance. Gardner fared much better, giving up seven hits but no runs. Boltersdorf came in to close the game out, and she struck out each batter she faced.

With the win, #2 Herkimer will now face #1 Rock Valley in a NJCAA D3 National Championship game. The Generals will have to defeat the Golden Eagles twice for their second national championship victory. Game time is 3 p.m. EST
