Offense explodes against Hawks on Sunday

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Collecting 30 hits and 27 runs scored in the span of 12 innings on Sunday (3/13), the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team got their first doubleheader sweep of the regular season, defeating Mohawk Valley in game one 15-4 and Delaware Technical in game two 12-0.

Standing out at the plate in game one was Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) and Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY) and Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY). The trio had 12 runs batted in, but also scored seven runs, capped by home runs by both LeBaron and McGuire. It was both players first of the season, roughing up Mohawk Valley starter Celine Laracuente who only lasted two innings after giving up eight hits and 10 runs.

On the flip side of that, Herkimer’s starter Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) got her first win of the season, allowing three runs off of three hits, striking out an impressive nine batters.

In game two, the opponent changed, but the results didn’t. Herkimer got their first shutout of the season with a complete game from starter Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA). The freshman went five innings and only allowed three hits, matching Nicoletti with nine strikeouts herself.

Offensively, the Generals got another home run from McGuire in game two, but joining her with that statistic was Hannah Desino (Pittsford, NY). The long ball helped each player to three runs batted in during the seven inning contest, but each was still one RBI behind Daniels who collected four in the game. Daniels went 4-for-4 at the plate in game two and 6-for-7 on the day.

Up next for the Generals is Mercer County and Lewis & Clark on Monday (3/14). The first game against Mercer is at 11:30 a.m. and the second game against Lewis & Clark is 11:30 a.m. EST.
