Softball takes second straight doubleheader

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – For the second consecutive day, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team swept two separate opponents, defeating Mercer County 8-4 in game one and Lewis & Clark 5-0 in game two on Monday (3/14).

Herkimer (4-2) didn’t have the same offensive output as they did on Sunday, but it wasn’t needed as Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY) and Jacqueline Gardner (Syracuse, NY) took care of business while on the mound. Hart allowed one earned run off of two hits despite walking eight Vikings to get her first win of the season in game one. As for Gardner, the freshman went six strong innings just like Hart, and allowed two earned runs off of five hits to get her first win against the Trailblazers.

Coming in relief during game one was Ashley Marshall (Oneida, NY) and game two was Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA). Marshall threw one inning and allowed three runs to cross the plate. Boltersdorf also threw an inning, but allowed just one hit while striking out two Trailblazers.

Standing out offensively in the doubleheader was Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY), leading the way with four runs batted in. She had two RBI in each game. Getting four RBI as well was Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY). The infielder went 2-for-4 in game one with three RBI and 2-for-3 in game two with one RBI.

Getting her second home run of the season against the Trailblazers was LeBaron. Herkimer now has six home runs on the season.

Up next for the Generals is Brookdale and Southeastern Illinois on Tuesday (3/15). It will be the team’s ninth game in five days. Game times are 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. EST at the Snowbird Softball Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC.
