Softball splits doubleheader with Stingers

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – In their last doubleheader of the Snowbird Softball Tournament, the #2 Herkimer Generals softball program lost game one to the Stingers 7-5, but came back to win game two 7-1, erasing the team’s nine-game win streak.

In game one, Herkimer (10-3) maintained a 5-1 lead into the fourth inning, but starter Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) was unable to keep the lead, allowing seven runs to plate in her final three innings of work, getting the loss (2-2) despite only allowing two earned runs in her seven innings of work.

All of the Generals offense came from the first three spots in the lineup, seeing Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY), Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) and Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) collect all six hits for the Generals.

In game two, Nicoletti got the start and remained perfect on the season (3-0), compiling another complete game this season, going seven strong innings and only allowing one earned run from four hits. The sophomore also tallied six more strikeouts, giving her 35 on the season which is the sixth best in the nation.

Offensively, Herkimer had two less hits than Florence-Darlington, but made the most of those five hits, scoring five runs in the final inning to put the game away. The top RBI leader was Daniels. She had four, going 2-for-3 at the plate. After Daniels, Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY) and Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY) chipped in an RBI.

The team will play in their last doubleheader of the spring trip on Saturday (3/19). They’ll face Richard Bland on their home field with games scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m. EST.
