Softball clinches conference by taking two from Vikings Friday

TROY, NY – Getting back on track offensively against Hudson Valley Friday (5/6), the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team clinched the Mountain Valley Conference by defeating the Vikings 8-3 and 9-4.

Herkimer (34-5, 13-0) racked up 22 hits in the doubleheader, held without a run in only five of 12 total innings played. Getting two of those hits in game one was Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY). The sophomore went 2-for-4 with a game-high three runs batted in. Lindsey Parese (Herkimer, NY) joined Daniels as the only two Generals to collect multiple hits. Parese went 2-for-4 as well in game one.

Getting RBI’s with the other six hits was Dana Nicoletti (Herkimer, NY), Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY) and Paige Crittela (Syracuse, NY). Nicoletti had two, while both McGuire and Crittela had one.

As for game two, Georgie Super (Poughkeepsie, NY) led the team with three hits, going 3-for-3 from the No. 8 spot in the lineup. It helped the freshman to a run batted in, joining McGuire, Sydney Cimini (Syracuse, NY), Jacqueline Gardner (Syracuse, NY) and Parese with one RBI in the contest.

With the entire line up producing in game two, it helped Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY) to her fifth win of the season, going four strong innings before Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, PA) pitched the final two in relief. Hart allowed three earned runs on four hits. Hurting the right hander was five walks.

Getting the win in game one was Nicoletti. The right hander got her 14th win of the season in a complete game effort. Nicoletti allowed 10 hits, but only three earned runs. She also struck out eight Vikings.
