Hart throws shutout in second round win over #6 Ocean County

ROCHESTER, MN – Led by a complete game shutout in their second game of the NJCAA D3 National Championship on Thursday (5/19), the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team advanced to the semifinals with an 8-0 win over Ocean County Community College at McQuillan Sports Complex in Rochester, MN.

Starting in the game for Herkimer (45-5, 13-0) was Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY). The right hander got her fourth shutout of the season (6-1), only allowing two hits to the Vikings despite handing out four walks. It helped the sophomore to her sixth win of the season, coming back to the form she had in early April when she didn’t allow a run through 15 straight innings.

With Hart keeping Ocean County in check offensively, Herkimer’s bats totaled 14 hits against both Marissa Stadtmauer and Stephanie Havens, scoring at least one run in every inning they participated in. Leading the charge again was Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) and Molly McGuire (Solvay, NY). Both hitters drove in two runs a piece, watching Daniels go 6-for-6 and McGuire go 5-for-6 on the day in two games.

Matching Daniels and McGuire in runs batted in was Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY). From the two spot in the lineup, Nicoletti went 2-for-2 with one runs scored and two stolen bases. The left hander scored four runs on the day for Herkimer.

Collecting the final two runs batted in against the Vikings was Sydney Cimini (Syracuse, NY) and Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY). Cimini hit a ground ball in the third which scored McGuire from third base (5-0) and Brone singled home Daniels in the fourth (8-0). Cimini finished the game 0-for-3 while Brone went 2-for-3 with one run scored and a double.

Up next for #2 Herkimer is #1 Rock Valley. The Golden Eagles have defeated their first two opponents 9-0 and 7-0. Rock Valley is the only D3 team in the last two season to defeat Herkimer more than once. Game time on Friday (5/20) is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
