Lady Generals split matches in opener

ALFRED, NY – Led by seniors Kayla Barber (Glens Falls, NY) and Brynn Hlozansky (Johnstown, NY), the Lady Generals went into Alfred State College on Saturday and split four matches (2-2) to begin the 2013 season.

Herkimer started off the day right, taking the first two of three sets (25-15, 25-19, 19-25) against Butler Community College. Jamestown Community College and Alfred State College took the following four of five sets (20-25, 25-12, 18-25), before Herkimer ended winning consecutive sets against Mercyhurst North East (25-22, 25-17).

Earning All-Tournament honors was Barber, amassing 39 kills, three aces, 34 digs and 17 blocks. Following her was Hlozansky with 21 kills, three aces, 41 digs and 10 blocks.

Rounding out the General attack was Ashley Mettler (Oppenheim, NY), Zara Hyde (Bleecker, NY), Cristen Davis (Castorland, NY), Paola Vazquez-Mora (Troy, NY) and Nicole Thibault (Ilion, NY). Mettler had 20 kills, three aces, 27 digs and one block; Hyde had six kills, three aces, 19 digs, 71 assists and four blocks; Vazquez-Mora had one kill, 34 digs and two blocks; Thibault had four aces and one dig.

The Generals next match is Wednesday, September 11th at 7 p.m. They will travel to Mohawk Valley Community College for a conference match up.
