Momentum Lost at MVCC POD

UTICA, NY – After a strong showing in their first regular season home match on Thursday, the Herkimer Generals women’s volleyball team lost that momentum, losing all three matches played Saturday (9/13) at Mohawk Valley Community College 3-0.

Herkimer (1-6) was unable to get anything going in their first match against Jamestown Community College. The Generals dug out 22 balls, but only accumulated eight kills from those opportunities. Captain Shelby Bobzien (Endicott, NY) and Carolyn Thompson (Hannibal, NY) accumulated 12 of the digs, but with Herkimer only getting over 10 points once in the three sets, the Jawkhawks took the match quickly.

The offense played better in Herkimer’s second match against Erie Community College, highlighted by nine kills from Elena Edwards (Holland Patent, NY) and Laurice Budd (Liberty, NY), but the Kats played well, defeating the Generals 25-11, 25-10 and 25-15.

The Generals finished the POD with Niagara County Community College. Ashlee Carlesimos (Frankfort, NY), Nickee Thibault (Ilion, NY) and Edwards played well, combining for five kills and 21 digs, but the Timberwolves prevailed 25-11, 25-10 and 25-8.

Herkimer’s next POD is on Saturday, September 20th. They’ll face SUNY Delhi, Broome Community College and Tomkins-Cortland Community College. Matches are schedule to begin at 9 a.m. Tompkins-Cortland will be the host of the POD.
