Volleyball defeats TC3 at hosted POD

HERKIMER, NY – Hosting a POD in the varsity gym on Saturday (9/19), the Herkimer Generals women’s volleyball team went 1-2, defeating Tompkins-Cortland, but losing to Corning and Broome Community College.

Herkimer (2-9, 1-1) finished out the week with a 2-2 record. The second win came against Tompkins-Cortland in their second match of the POD. Each game was close, but strong performances from Laurice Budd (Liberty, NY), Mackenzie Holbert (Sauquoit, NY) and Mary Rose Creedon (Little Falls, NY) allowed the Generals to take the match 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21). Budd, Holbert and Creedon combined for 18 kills and five aces against the Panthers. Both Budd and Holbert had one ace and seven kills while Creedon had four kills and four aces.

Other standouts in the win were Morgan Catania (Johnstown, NY) and JaNay Mucitelli (Whitesboro, NY). Each had three kills and a service point, but Catania outdid Mucitelli in digs five-to-two.

Herkimer’s next competition will be at Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Saturday, September 26th when the Raiders host a POD. The Generals are slated to face Cayuga, Onondaga and Fulton-Montgomery. Action is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
