Volleyball splits at Vikings POD

TROY, NY – Dropping their first two matches at Hudson Valley Community College didn’t faze the Herkimer Generals women’s volleyball team Saturday (10/17), winning their last two against North Country and Columbia-Greene to salvage the POD.

Herkimer (4-19, 2-4) didn’t allow either conference opponent in their final two matches to win a game, going a perfect 6-0 to end the day. Helping the team to that feat was multiple student-athletes. Setting up the offense was both Morgan Catania (Johnstown, NY) and Zariyah Riggan (Cohoes, NY). Catania had 11 assists and nine digs to go along with three kills. Riggan had 23 digs and two service points.

Taking advantage of the solid play from both Catania and Riggan were Mackenzie Holbert (Sauquoit, NY), Laurice Budd (Liberty, NY) and Mary Rose Creedon (Little Falls, NY). In the last two matches Holbert had nine aces, 11 kills, 12 assists, and five digs; Budd had three service points, 16 kills, one digs and one block; and Creedon had two service points, five kills, and 16 digs.

Not to be forgotten was Lindsay Therrien (Johnstowm NY). The freshman had two service points and six kills.

The Generals finish regular season on the road against Columbia-Greene next Monday (10/26). The Twins are 1-20, but 1-5 in their last six matches. Play between the Generals and Twins is scheduled for 7 p.m.
