Streak ends at home against Adirondack

(The Lady Generals host the Timbervolves in the varsity gym Wednesday).

HERKIMER, NY – An impressive eight-game win streak was snapped against SUNY Adirondack Wednesday night, seeing the Herkimer Women's Volleyball team lose 3-1.

Herkimer (12-4) lost just four total sets in the last 18 days. Tonight, at Herkimer County Community College, the Lady Generals lost three total sets, and two consecutive (23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19).

Everything looked right when Herkimer jumped out 2-0 in the first set, with Brynn Hlozansky (Johnstown, NY) and Nicole Thibault (Ilion, NY) earning a kill and ace. Adirondack eventually got in a groove however, causing Head Coach Kristy Lynch to call a time out when the Timberwolves led by two (15-13). Herkimer tied the set at 22, thanks to numerous kills by Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY) and Ashley Mettler (Oppenheim, NY), but Adirondack prevailed 25-23.

Herkimer again jumped out to an early lead in the second set, leading 7-4 after a Zara Hyde (Bleecker, NY) kill. Both teams tied at 17, 19 and 20, seeing Adirondack win the second set 25-22.

Both teams traded points throughout the third set until numerous block assists by Paola Vazquez-Mora (Troy, NY), Barber and Hyde put Herkimer up 20-19. Two kills by Barber, one block by Hyde and one kill by Mettler eventually got the team back in the match (2-1), winning 25-19.

The momentum gained in the third set was soon lost when the Timberwolves jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the fourth. Two kills by Hlozansky, three kills and one block by Barber and one kill and one ace by Mettler eventually tied the set at 13 each, but Adirondack ripped off a 12-6 run to win the final set 25-19.

The Lady Generals will host their own POD this Saturday, adding to the Fall Fest & Alumni Weekend celebration at Herkimer County Community College. Play is expected to begin around 9 a.m.
