Lady Generals not finding success at home

HERKIMER, NY – The Women's Volleyball team hosted their only POD of the season on Saturday against Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC), Corning Community College (CCC) and Monroe Community College (MCC). The Lady Generals finished the day 1-2, beating FLCC 3-2.

Herkimer (13-6) had a rough week on the home court after winning eight consecutive matches, going 13-3 away in total. On Wednesday the team lost to SUNY Adirondack (3-1) then lost 3-0 to both Corning and Monroe.

Their first match of the day against Finger Lakes had a rough start also, losing 25-22 and 25-17 in the first two sets, but the team awoke to take the final three sets 25-16, 28-26 and 15-7. Helping the cause was Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY), Cristen Davis (Castorland, NY), Brynn Hlozansky (Johnstown, NY), Zara Hyde (Bleecker, NY), Paola Vazquez-Mora (Troy, NY), Katherine Clarke (Oneida, NY) and Ashley Mettler (Oppenheim, NY). Barber had 17 kills, two aces, 28 digs, three assists and two blocks; Davis had 11 digs, 13 assists and one block; Hlozansky had eight kills, one ace and 21 digs; Hyde had five kills, five aces, 12 digs, 26 assists and one block; Clarke had four kills and four blocks; Mettler had nine kills, one ace and 10 digs.

As mentioned previously, the Lady Generals lost their final two matches to the Red Barons (18-25, 25-27, 18-25) and Tribunes (19-25, 23-25, 19-25). In both matches, the Lady Generals fought hard in their second set to even it at one each (1-1), however they came up short by two points in each.

Herkimer's next match is this Wednesday (10/9) at home. The Lady Generals will look to improve on their home record this season when Hudson Valley Community College comes to play in the varsity gym. Start time is 6 p.m.
