The 2017 season marks Jamie Ireland's sixth as head coach of the Men's Lacrosse program. One year removed from the Coaches Association National Coach of the Year, Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year, and Region III Coach of the Year (2015). Ireland is a Herkimer College graduate (2004). He was a member of the undefeated (18-0) 2003 national championship lacrosse team, the last season legendary Head Coach Paul Wehrum led for the Generals.
In May 2012, Ireland was hired as a Technical Assistant in the Fitness Center at Herkimer College which was also the same year he got the opportunity to replace Rich Dommer as Head Coach of the Men’s Lacrosse program.
The Norwalk, CT native has been a certified lacrosse instructor for over 16 years, teaching youth and high school lacrosse primarily. Doubling as a private lacrosse instructor, Ireland works with athletes of all ages, evaluating players and instructing at various lacrosse camps and clinics throughout the northeast.
Furthermore, Ireland’s coaching experience spans as an assistant varsity and junior varsity lacrosse coach at Newtown High School (Newtown, CT), Calabasas youth and high school lacrosse coach (Calabasas, CA) and assistant varsity and junior varsity coach at Norwalk High School (Norwalk, CT).
As a side note, in 2004, Ireland was named NJCAA Player of the Year and first team All-American, helping the Generals to a Region III Championship, the program’s 22nd, and a runner up at nationals, finishing the season 17-2. That on field success led to stints at both Syracuse University and the Long Island Lizards of the Major League Lacrosse league.
