Herkimer College alumni Katie Scanlon returns for her sixth year of service with the women’s tennis program in 2016.

In her time as head coach, the team placed second, third and sixth in the regional tournament and celebrated four individual regional champions at the following flights: first singles, first doubles, second doubles and sixth singles, as well as six athletes named first team All-Region. In 2010 the tennis team went on to win the Region III Championship, honoring Scanlon as Region III Coach of the Year in the process.

As a student, Scanlon won two consecutive individual Region III titles at second singles and her team finished as Region III runner-up both years. Katie was named 2001 Female Athlete of the Year at Herkimer for her accomplishments on the tennis court and softball field.

Upon graduation from Herkimer, she transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh where she competed at the first singles and doubles flight under the leadership of Coach Matt Mero. She earned a Doubles SUNYAC Championship in 2001. She finished her athletic career at SUNYIT where she played volleyball and softball in the very competitive SUNYAC Conference. She earned the honor of Female Athlete of the Year at SUNYIT in 2003.

Katie is employed by Herkimer College as the Advisement Center Specialist. She resides in Ilion with her husband Cory and son Myles.
