Tony Kurucz joined the staff as a Recruiting Coordinator/Data Analysis in March of 2016 and added team defensive skills responsibilities for the 2018 season. Kurucz arrived at Herkimer after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Onondaga Community College where he focused on team defense, student athlete recruitment and team fundraising programs.
In his first two full seasons as Herkimer’s Defensive Skills Coach, the team committed less than 1 (0.826) error per game and gave up less than 1 (.543) unearned runs per game while recording a fielding percentage of .968 and a record of 92W – 13L. During that time, the Generals collected two straight conference and regional titles, reached the NJCAA Division III National Championships two times and recorded two national runner-up finishes. Herkimer ended the 2019 season ranked 10th in the nation for fielding percentage (of 344 NJCAA teams) improving to an 11th place ranking in 2018.
In 2019, Kurucz was recognized as an Easton/National Fastpitch Coach’s Association (NFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year for serving as the program’s defensive coordinator, first base coach and lead recruiter.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities with Herkimer, Kurucz serves as a College Coach Evaluator for College Sports Evaluation, LLC and as an Assistant Coach for the Dutchess Deb’s Travel Softball Program.
Kurucz coached at Cazenovia High School, coaching junior varsity and varsity teams for eight seasons. In addition, Kurucz has held head coaching and program administration responsibilities for several local travel softball programs over the last 11 years.

Kurucz graduated from Marlboro High School in 1984. He has a bachelor’s degree from The State University of New York in Math and Science, and is employed by Altra Motion as a Altra Business System Facilitator. Kurucz resides in Cazenovia, NY with his wife Barbara. He is also the proud father of two children Meaghan (LeMoyne 2016) and Nick (Clarkson 2018).
