Herkimer NY – Herkimer College has announced its Green and Gold Athletes for the month of April. They are Men’s Baseball player Benjamin Wager (Johnstown, NY) and Women’s Track and Field Athlete Malerie Belles (Clay, NY).

Wager, a sophomore pitcher, has a record of 5-0 on the year with an ERA of 0.00. He has struck out 36 batters and only given up 11 hits in 29.2 innings of work for Herkimer, who is ranked # 4 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll. Coach Jason Rathbun states “Ben has been through a lot the past two years and we are so proud of the success he has had this year. Binghamton University is getting a great player, but an even better person of high character”.

Belles, a sophomore, earned the Region III Championship in the high jump and triple jump. She also was a part of the Region III Champion relay teams in the 400m and 3200m. She has qualified for Nationals in the events of the High Jump, Triple Jump, Heptathlon, 400m relay, and 1600m relay. Coach Sharon Howell says “Malerie is a great captain and is the backbone of this year’s team. She played an integral part in our women’s team finishing 2nd overall at Regionals”.
