Herkimer, NY—Herkimer College has announced its Green and Gold Athletes for the month of September. They are men’s soccer player Alex Charles, of Christ Church, St. Kitts, and women’s soccer and volleyball player Kayla Suppa, of Oneida, NY.
Charles, a freshman forward, scored 16 goals—which included three hat tricks—and five assists in the month of September. The Generals are 13-0 and ranked No. 2 in the nation. “He has made an immediate impact on our team,” said head men’s soccer coach Pepe Aragon. “Alex has exceptional speed and is a great finisher.”
Suppa, a freshman, has taken on the challenge of playing two sports at the same. In volleyball, she has 20 aces and 216 digs on the year. “As a defensive specialist, Kayla shines in the back row using her no-fear attitude, fast feet, and loud voice to help get many of the hard hits up,” said head volleyball coach Dianna Ste-Marie. “She is team player, for sure. Kayla’s strong self-motivation and personality makes her the outstanding dual athlete she is.”
On the soccer side, Kayla has tallied nine goals and five assists, and she is third on the Generals team in points and goals. She was named Region III Athlete of the Week for Sept. 2-8. “Kayla has been an integral part of our success so far this season and helped the team to a No. 4 national ranking,” said head women’s soccer coach Jason Palkovic. “And for her to be getting it done in two sports at the same time is very impressive”
