Herkimer, NY- Herkimer College has announced its Green and Gold Athletes for the month of September. They are men’s soccer player Manabu Takahashi (Osaka, Japan) and two-sport athlete (soccer/volleyball) Kayla Suppa (Oneida, NY).
The sophomore goalkeeper, Takahashi, has led the Generals to a 6-1 record and #3 national rank. Takahashi has posted three shutouts on the season and 35 saves on the season, including seven against MVCC. Head Coach Pepe Aragon noted, “Manabu has been tremendous in goal this season. He has come up with some big time saves in crucial times.”
Suppa has been all over the field and court for the Generals this fall. The sophomore forward is leading the women’s soccer team with goals (11) and assists (7). For the volleyball team, Suppa serves as the team’s libero with 197 digs, 7 aces and 3 kills. Suppa’s 197 digs has her in first in the region. In addition, Suppa is a student leader on campus and serves as a Resident Assistant.
“Kayla is a top notch athlete who gives 100 percent to her team every day. She strives for excellence and pushes her team to do so as well,” said Volleyball Coach Dianna Ste-Marie. “Kayla is one of the top leaders in the region for digs, most of which involve a dive or a roll, and still gives her setter a playable ball. Outstanding all-around athlete!”
Women’s Soccer Coach Damon Neish added, “Kayla is a standard setter on our team. She holds herself and the rest of the team to the expected standard both on and off the field. In our region she is one of the top goal scorers and one of the highest in points.”
