Greg Farone - Green & Gold May 2022 Green and Gold Athlete of the Month

Herkimer College has announced its Green and Gold Athletes of the month of May. They are, baseball player Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) and softball player Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, NY).

Greg Farone has turned in the most decorated season of any Herkimer baseball player in team history. Farone was named 2022 NJCAA All-America first team, while leading the Generals to the programs first National Championship. Farone was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, striking out 25 in 13 innings of work. Greg finished the season 7-0 with a 1.65 earned run average while strike out 139 in 60 innings. Farone shattered the programs strike out record which was set by Willy Gabay in 2012 with 90 and finished the season as the national leader. Head Coach Jason Rathbun said, “Greg’s impact in our program will last a lifetime. He will always be remembered here as one of the great ones who have come through the program. He stepped up on the biggest stage and helped deliver our first National Championship”. Farone was named 1st team All Region and has accepted a Division I scholarship to the University of Louisville for the fall of 2022.
