Former General Gabay assigned to Pulaski Yankees
HERKIMER, NY – Former Herkimer Generals pitcher Willie Gabay, who recently signed a free agent offer with the New York Yankees in June (2015), was assigned to the Pulaski Yankees of the Appalachian League.
Gabay - who was an All-American for the Generals in 2012 when he posted a 6-1 record with a 2.62 ERA - appeared in 15 games for the Yankees this past summer, going 1-1 in 24 total innings pitched, striking out 20 batters as a reliever.
Prior to the Yankees signing the right hander, Gabay played for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (2014), Charlotte Stone Crabs (2014), Hudson Valley Renegades (2013), GCL Rays (2013) and Princeton Rays (2012).
Gabay was the first Herkimer baseball player ever selected in the Major League Baseball draft, signing with the Tampa Bay Rays after being selected in the 15th round. The two-year starter at Herkimer earned Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year honors before getting drafted, and still holds the programs strikeout record, amassing 91 in 58.1 innings pitched.
