Rathbun named Region III and District A Coach of the Year
Head Baseball Coach Jason Rathbun was recently named 2018 ABCA/Diamond NJCAA District A Coach of the Year by American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The National and Regional Coaches of the Year will be honored on Friday, Jan. 4 in the main clinic hall prior to the start of clinics at the 75th annual ABCA Convention, which will be held Jan. 3-6, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Rathbun also serves on the Junior College executive committee for the ABCA for the past 4 years.
Rathbun was also selected by his coaching peers as the 2018 Region III Coach of the Year. Rathbun serves as the president of Region III baseball coaches association. At the World Series, Rathbun was also named the NJCAA District A Coach of the Year.
Coach Rathbun finished up his 14th season as Head Coach of the Generals and has guided the Generals to 448 wins and 163 loses over those 14 years. His teams have won 6 regional championships and 11 conference championships. 61 players have been selected to all conference team, 59 players to all region teams and 19 have been named an All American. 15 of Rathbun’s players have went on into professional baseball. 105 student athletes have moved on to 4 year baseball programs with 78 of them receiving scholarships.
In addition to his coaching duties, Rathbun is the Director of Residence Life at Herkimer. He lives in Herkimer with his wife Melissa and their daughter Alivia. Rathbun’s son, AJ, is a 4th generation family member to serve the US military as he is currently in the US Coast Guard. Coach Rathbun served in the US ARMY from 1996-99. He was inducted into the Mohawk Valley Baseball Hall of Fame in April of 2014. Rathbun holds an Associate’s Degree from Herkimer, Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Erskine College and a Master’s Degree in Sports Psychology from Capella University.
