Forbes, Parkinson lead Generals to sweep of SUNY Adirondack
Herkimer, NY - Two days after scoring 24 runs in a home doubleheader sweep of Jefferson, the Herkimer Generals continued to their hot streak at the plate in scoring 34 runs in taking two from SUNY Adirondack on Tuesday afternoon in Herkimer. The two wins, 21-2 in Game 1 and 13-3 in Game 2, raised the Generals record to 18-3 overall and 9-1 in the Eastern Division of Region III. Herkimer is also ranked # 7 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Brian Forbes (Rocky Point, NY) was the Game 1 hitting star, belting 2 deep home runs in going 3-4 with 4 RBI's. Frank Wayman (Horseheads, NY) added his own home run while going 2-3 with 5 RBI's and Brandon Kruzinski (Schenectady, NY) went 2-3 with 3 runs batted in, including his own home run to lead off the game for Herkimer. Joe Novenche (Clifton Park, NY) chipped in a 3-3 day which contributed to the Generals 18 hit attack in Game 1. Pitcher Ryan Lanaro (Schenectady, NY) got the win on the mound, going 4 innings and scattering 6 hits while striking out 7.
In Game 2, Matt Parkinson (Whitesboro, NY) led the Herkimer attack, going 4-4 with 3 RBI's and the Generals scored 8 runs in the 4th and 5th innings to pull away from the Timberwolves. Matt Tobin (Poland, NY), Vito Castronovo (Utica, NY), and Cedric Rose (Pittsfield, MA) each added 2 hits for Herkimer in the win. Chris Godlewski (New York Mills, NY) started for Herkimer and went 3.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while Masaki Furudono (Kagoshima, Japan) came on in relief to get the final 5 outs of the game and was impressive in striking out 3 and giving up only one hit.
The 4 game series now shifts to Glen Falls, NY for a doubleheader at SUNY Adirondack on Thursday, April 18. First pitch is slated for 2:00 PM.
