Forbes blast give Generals win over Mohawk Valley

Utica, NY - Brian Forbes (Rocky Point, NY) blasted a 2 run home run in the top of the 6th to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Herkimer Generals a 5-2 win in Game 1 of a scheduled doubleheader against the Mohawk Valley Hawks on Sunday at Murnane Field in Utica. Game 2 was halted in the top of the 5th with Herkimer leading 8-5 and will be considered no contest as the game did not go the required innings to make it an official game.

Joe Novenche (Clifton Park, NY) also went yard in Game 1, connecting for solo shot in the 2nd inning to give Herkimer a 2-0 lead. After the Hawks tied it at 2 in the 4th, Forbes played the hero and came through with his homer in the 6th to give the Generals the win. Brandon Kruzinski (Schenectady, NY) went 2-4 as well as he scored 1 and knocked on 1 for the game.

Dale Stanavich (Amsterdam, NY) got the win on the mound, going the last 3 innings of the game and allowing only one hit while striking out 2.

The Generals, now 28-3-1 with a record of 14-0 in Mountain Valley Conference play and 19-1-1 in the Eastern Division of Region III, will conclude their regular season and will look to wrap up the MVC Championship and the # 1 seed in the upcoming Region III Playoffs when they host Fulton-Montgomery CC on Thursday afternoon, May 9th.
