Generals take 3 out of 4 from Cayuga Spartans

Little Falls and Auburn, NY - The Herkimer Generals and Cayuga Spartans battled in a home and home 4 game series over the last 3 days with the Generals taking 3 out of 4 to raise their record to 12-2 on the season. On Saturday, in what would be a common theme in the 4 game set, Herkimer battled back from an early deficit to grab the win. After falling behind 4-2 in the second inning, the Generals reeled off 13 unanswered runs, including a 6 run 5th inning, to run away with the win. Ethan Patch (Whitehall, NY) came on in relief of Trey Princiotto (Horseheads, NY) and was very impressive, throwing 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball to close out the game.

Game 2 was a back and forth affair, as the Generals scored 3 in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead only to see the Spartans answer with 4 of their own in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-6 into the 7th. Herkimer then answered with 6 runs in their final at bat to claim the sweep of the road doubleheader. Okamura had a huge day at the plate, going 4-5 with a homer, double, and 5 RBI's. Matt Tobin (Newport, NY) added a home run of his own while going 2-5 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Dom Fasolo (Whitesboro, NY) and Anthony Raimo, Jr (Altamont, NY) each had 2 hits as well. 4 different Herkimer pitchers took the mound with Eddie Rogers (Little Falls, NY) getting the win and Miller getting the save, giving up only one hit in his inning of work.

After a rainout pushed Sunday's scheduled doubleheader to Tuesday, the series resumed with Cayuga breaking the Generals 8 game winning streak with a 4-1 win in the first game at Vets Park. Miller went 1-2 and scored the Generals only run in the contest as the Spartans broke a 1-1 tie with 1 run in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to secure the victory. Kyle Taborne (Vestal, NY) took the tough loss on the mound, going 6 innings while only allowing 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5.

The Generals offense erupted in Tuesday's nightcap, slugging 5 home runs to overcome an early 3-0 deficit. Raimo, Jr led the way, going 2-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI's.
