Generals plate 74 runs in 4 game sweep of Jefferson
Watertown NY and Little Falls, NY - Averaging over 18 runs a game, the Herkimer Generals swept a 4 game series from the SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers over the weekend to improve their record to 22-2 on the season. Herkimer took the first two games in Watertown by scores of 16-1 and 26-1 on Saturday in Watertown before traveling back home to Vets Park on Sunday and winning by scores of 15-0 and 17-1.
Robert Conley (Utica, NY) got the weekend rolling for the Generals in Game 1 of the weekend series, going 2-4 with a home run and 5 RBI's. Anthony Raimo Jr (Altamont, NY) added a round tripper of his own as part of a 2-3 day with 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Matthew Tobin (Newport, NY) and Trey Miller (Rocky Point, NY) each added 2 hits as well as Herkimer scored 15 of their 16 runs in the first 3 innings. Trey Princiotto (Horseheads, NY) went 4 innings on the mound to get the win, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 4. Christian Ramirez (Amityville, NY) made his collegiate debut, pitching a perfect 5th inning to close out the game, striking out 1.
Elian Pimentel (Huntington, NY) and Frank Wayman (Horseheads, NY) led the Generals attack in Saturday's nightcap. Pimentel went 5 for 5 with 2 doubles, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI's while Wayman jacked 2 home runs as part of his 3-4 day with 5 RBI's. Dakota Britt (Rockwell, TX) went 3-4 with 4 RBI's and Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell Junction, NY) made his one hit count, smacking a home run and knocking in 4. Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) struck out 9 in his 4 innings of work to get the win and Ethan Duda (Latham, NY) closed out the game on the mound, needing only 11 pitches in his one inning to close out the Saturday sweep.
The scene shifted to Vet's Park in Little Falls on Sunday but there was no change in result as Herkimer used an 8 run third to pull away from the Cannoneers to secure the 15-0 Game 1 win. Wayman and Caccamise each homered for the second straight game, with Wayman's being a first inning grand slam as part of another 5 RBI game. Britt collected 2 more hits and scored 3 runs from the leadoff spot while Sal Carricato (Farmingville, NY) had 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Kyle Taborne (Vestal, NY) went the distance on the mound for Herkimer, scattering 4 hits and striking out 4 in 5 innings.
The final game of the weekend saw Herkimer plate 8 runs in the first inning to cruise to the 17-1 victory. The Generals had only 7 hits but they made them count as Trey Miller went 2-3 with a grand slam and 5 RBI's. Frank Wayman homered for the third straight game and Anthony Raimo, Jr also added a home run as part of his 2-3 game. Brandon Breakell (Loudonville, NY) gave up only 3 hits and 1 run in his 4 innings and Eddie Rogers (Little Falls, NY) closed out the weekend series by striking out 2 in his one inning of work.
Now the Generals, who lead the Eastern Division of Region III, set their sights on a showdown with West Division Leader Niagara County Community College on Wednesday afternoon at Gutchess Park in Cortlandville, NY. The battle between the Regional Division leaders is set for a 1:00 first pitch.
