Generals sweep 4 game set from D2 Monroe CC

Little Falls, NY and Rochester, NY - It was another great weekend for the Herkimer Generals baseball squad as they swept a 4 game set from Monroe Community College, the # 13 ranked Division II team in the nation, on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. At Vet's Park in Little Falls on Saturday, the Generals won by scores of 11-5 and 3-2 before traveling to Rochester on Sunday and taking two more games by scores of 13-8 and 17-7. The wins give the Generals a final regular season record of 27-2 as they will enter the postseason on a 16 game winning streak since their last loss on April 13.

Herkimer wasted no time getting the offense going in Saturday's opener, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first and scoring in all but one inning for the 11-5 win. Frank Wayman (Horseheads, NY) led the charge by going 3-4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI's. Dom Fasolo (Whitesboro, NY) and Anthony Raimo Jr (Altamont, NY) each added a home run of their own and 3 RBI's and Yukuki Okamura (Shiga, Japan) went 3-4 with 2 runs scored. Trey Princiotto (Horseheads, NY) got the win on the mound, going 4 and 2/3 innings while striking out 7. Ethan Duda (Latham, NY) took over after that, going 2 and 1/3 impressive innings while only giving up 1 hit.

Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) was the story of Game 2 for Herkimer, striking out 11 Monroe batters in his 5 innings of work to get the 3-2 win. David Montalvo (Bethlehem, NY) took the ball in the 6th inning, striking out 3 and allowing no hits in his 2 innings. Wayman continued his torrid pace at the plate, smacking 2 doubles while Raimo added 2 more hits in the win.

The scene shifted to Rochester on Sunday, as the Generals fought back from deficits of 4-2 and 8-7 to claim the comeback win in the opener. Dakota Britt (Rockwell, TX) and Okamura slammed home runs while Matt Tobin (Newport, NY) went 3-5 with 3 RBI's. Ryan Peters (Watertown,NY) got the win in relief for the Generals, going 4 innings and allowing only one run and striking out 3.

The Generals secured the weekend sweep by exploding for 17 runs in the Sunday's nightcap. Ryan Kerley (Vestal, NY) went 4-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Sal Carricato (Farmingville, NY) slammed a home run as part of his 3 hit day while Raimo, Jr, Kyle Caccamise (Hopewell Junction, NY) and Devin Disonell (Clifton Park, NY) each added 3 hits as part of Herkimer's 19 hits in the game. Brandon Breakell (Loudonville, NY) was the beneficiary of the Generals offense, getting the win while throwing 5 innings and scattering 6 hits while striking out 4.

The Generals, who are still ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll,  will host Genesee Community College on Saturday, May 8th in a best of three Sub-Regional Series at Vets Park in Little Falls as they begin defense of their Region III title. Games 1 and 2 will be played on Saturday with a winner take all Game 3 on Sunday at Vets Park if the teams split their contests on Saturday. The winner of the series advances to the Region III Final Four, hosted by Herkimer College at Vets Park in Little Falls from May 14-16.
