Niagara and Herkimer will meet for the Region III Championship

Little Falls, NY - In what is becoming a common theme at the Region III Baseball Final Four, the Herkimer Generals and Niagara Thunderwolves will play for a championship.

The two teams that have combined to win the last 8 Region III Championships will meet on Sunday to determine who takes home the 2021 title as the #9th ranked Niagara (29-8) and #4 Herkimer (31-3) will do battle in Game 6 of the Region III Final Four at 12 Noon. A Niagara win in that game would give them the title while the Generals need to win the Noon game to force a winner take all Game 7 at 3:30 PM.

While Niagara has gone 2-0 at the Final Four with wins over Finger Lakes and Erie to advance to the Championship round out of the winners bracket, the Generals have had to do it the hard way, coming out of the losers brackets after dropping Game 1 on Friday to Erie by a score of 6-4. But Herkimer went 2-0 on Saturday, beating Finger Lakes by a score of 10-0 and getting revenge on Erie by beating them by a score of 12-2 on Saturday night to advance to Sunday's Championship round.

In Saturday afternoon's win over Finger Lakes, Yuzuki Okamura (Shiga, Japan) was the star at the plate for Herkimer, going 3-4 with a home run and 4 RBI's. Brandon Breakell (Loudonville, NY) was brilliant on the mound for the Generals, going 6 innings while allowing only 2 hits and striking out 3.

In Saturday night's rematch with the Erie Kats, Matt Tobin (Newport, NY) blasted 2 home runs and knocked in 4 to lead the Generals attack. Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) gave Herkimer another great performance on the mound, striking out 7 and only allowing 3 hits and 2 runs in his 6 innings of work.

Sunday's Championship Round will be a rematch of a game played in late April in Cortlandville, NY as the Generals stormed back from an 8-1 deficit to earn an 11-10 win in 8 innings over Niagara.
