Herkimer Trio Helps Lead Brewster to Cape League Title

Herkimer NY- Former Generals Dale Stanavich (Amsterdam, NY), John Mikolaicyk (Oneonta, NY) and current General Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY) all spent time in the prestigious Cape Cod League this past summer, helping the Brewster Whitecaps win a League title.

Herkimer College Head Coach Jason Rathbun noted, "I am very lucky to have such a great relationship with Coach Shevchik and the entire Brewster coaching staff. Shev shows what smaller college coaches can do when given the chance to lead Major League Draft prospects; he’s a bigtime coach at any level”.

Rathbun added, “We wanted to get Dale to Brewster in the summer of 2020, but COVID wiped out that opportunity and the 2020 Cape League Season. I'm glad Brewster was able to reconnect with Dale (Rutgers University) this summer. In addition, we were fortunate to get Greg Farone (2021 All American and current General) and former General John Mikolaicyk (Hofstra University) to help those guys down the stretch for their title run”.

In addition, Dale Stanavich was recently named a 2021 Cape Cod League All Star, finishing the year 1-0 with 8 saves and a 2.29 ERA over 19.2 innings with 36 strikeouts. Stanavich noted, “All the Cape League fields have a unique feel to them; there isn’t grandstands or jumbotrons, just highly competitive players and fans that really care about us”. Stanavich added, “Herkimer gave me the opportunity to work on my skills and get college innings right away. The culture there is unmatched. The coaches do a great job of helping their kids become better ball players, but also give them a chance to grow as individuals and succeed in the classroom. All the tools you need to be successful are on campus. It’s up to you if you want to take advantage of them or not”.

Stanavich, Mikolaicyk and Farone join Herkimer alumni Pat Dorrian and Joe Kuzia as Generals that have competed in the Historic League. Rathbun added, “Every Herkimer player we have had play in the Cape has signed to major league contract, so that's a great sign for these guys!"
