Farone Commits to Louisville

Herkimer NY- Herkimer Generals All-American Pitcher Greg Farone (Schenectady, NY), recently committed to the University of Louisville. The 6’6 left hander had a stellar freshman season for the Generals going 6-0 with a 2.09 ERA in 43 innings. Farone racked up 74 strikeouts and averaged 15.49 strikeouts per 9 innings. Greg went on to pitch last summer in the Cape League, having 2 outings for the Brewster Whitecaps who went on to win a Cape League title.

Farone noted “Louisville’s atmosphere was amazing, the team had one thing on their mind, and it was getting back to Omaha! (Home of the College World Series). Louisville is nationally ranked every year and there coaches do everything possible to help the student-athletes succeed”. Farone’s development this past year has been remarkable. During the fall scout day, he showed off his improved fastball which was clocked at 93 MPH. Greg went on to say “over the past year, I’ve put myself on the national radar by trying to be the hardest worker in the room. With that, I added 30 pounds to my frame which has allowed me to take my game to the next level.  I have the mindset that nobody is going to outwork me in any aspect of the game. That includes the classroom, weight room and nutrition”.

Head Coach Jason Rathbun noted “Greg has done everything you need to do to put himself in this situation to play for one of the top programs in the country. I am so glad this opportunity has presented itself for him. Greg has set up his future in baseball and academically. He deserves everything that is coming his way”.

Farone will move on to play for Head Coach Dan McDonnell in the fall of 2022. Under McDonnell’s tutelage, Louisville has 5 World Series appearances (2007, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2019). McDonnell has eclipsed a .716 winning percentage in his 15 years at the helm turning out 82 professional baseball players during that time, including the number 1 pick in the 2021 MLB Draft ,Henry Davis (Fox Lane, NY).

The Generals open up their 2022 campaign on March 12th against Rockingham CC in North Carolina and then will make their way to Florida during their annual spring break trip.
