Generals win four in a row over Cougars

HERKIMER, NY – Led offensively for a second consecutive day at Herkimer College, the Generals Baseball team defeated Clinton Community College in consecutive games, defeating the Cougars 11-1 in game one and game two.
Herkimer 15-5 (7-1) drew eight walks in game one which gave numerous hitters chances to knock runs in. Capitalizing on those chances were Brandon Martinez (River Edge, NJ), Francis Prettitore (Bayville, NY) Tyler Phillips (Hancock, NY) and Shinnosuke Takahashi (Chiba, Japan). The group gathered 11 RBIs with Martinez and Prettitore finishing with three each. As for Phillips and Takahashi, they had two apiece, helping the Generals build a 3-1 lead in the third to 10-1 by the end of the fourth.
Pitching in game one was Lucas Godlewski (Little Falls, NY). The freshman threw a complete game two hitter, allowing only one run in the fourth inning. He finished the game striking out five hitters.
In the second game, Herkimer jumped out to a 5-1 lead, cruising to a 10-1 victory after scoring six runs in the sixth. helping the attack was Matthew Lichtman (Smithtown, NY), Carlos Almonte (Brooklyn, NY), Christopher Burns III (Endicott, NY), A.J. Fabrizio (Palm City, FL), Martinez, Lonnie Cohen (Teaneck, NJ), Thomas Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY) and Taishi Terashima (Hiranai, Aomori, Japan). Lichtman went 1-for-3 with two RBI, Almonte went 2-for-2 with one RBI, Burns III went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Fabrizio went 0-for-2 with one RBI, Martinez went 1-for-1 with one RBI, Cohen went 0-for-3 with one RBI, Carrigan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Terashima went 0-for-4 with one RBI.
Staring the game was Denis Lyman (Kingston, NY). Lyman got his first win of the season, allowing one run in four innings. Dan Colburn (Ilion, NY) and Alexander Lynch (Newport, NY) came for relief, both throwing an inning each. Each didn’t allow a run, combing for three strike outs with Colburn getting one and Lynch getting two.
The Generals next game is Thursday (4/17). They’ll travel to Queensbury, NY to take on SUNY Adirondack in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
