DeCarlo and Burch provide spark to defeat Timberwolves
QUEENSBURY, NY – Behind starters Michael DeCarlo and Nick Burch, the Herkimer Generals Baseball team kept up their solid play, defeating SUNY Adirondack Thursday 7-0 and 2-1 in a doubleheader.
Herkimer 17-5 (7-1) saw DeCarlo (Wynantskill, NY) throw seven innings and Burch (Salem, NY) throw six. Combined, each only allowed the Timberwolves to score one run, with DeCarlo striking out two and Burch striking out 10.
Behind DeCarlo in game one, Tyler Phillips (Hancock, NY), A.J. Fabrizio (Palm City, NY) and John Boland (Rhinebeck, NY) provided the offense, with Phillips knocking in two, Boland knocking in one and Fabrizio knocking in one. Philips finished 2-for-4, Boland finished 2-for-4 and Fabrizio finished 1-for-3.
In game two, Christopher Burns III (Endicott, NY) had both big hits in the first and third innings, compiling two RBIs in the game. It gave the Generals a 2-0 lead it would not relinquish, allowing Shinnosuke Takahashi (Chiba, Japan) to close the door in the seventh, retiring three Timberwolves in order for the 2-1 victory.
Herkimer’s next game is Friday (4/18). The Generals will host SUNY Adirondack at home. Starting game one will be Kyle Garrison (Schenectady, NY). Starting game two will be Robert Hardy (Clark Mills, NY). Game one is at 12 p.m. and game two is at 2 p.m.
