Shutout by Sinko propels Generals past Knights

POLK STATE, FL – Aided by a complete game shutout by sophomore Chad Sinko (Cohoes, NY), the Herkimer Generals baseball team got back on track Tuesday (3/17), defeating the Community College of Rhode Island 8-0 in eight innings at Chain of Lakes Park.

Herkimer (7-1) had a slow start offensively, not scoring their first run of the game until the third inning, but offensive wasn’t needed with Sinko only allowing four hits in eight innings pitched, accumulating seven strike outs for his first win of the season.

With Sinko dominating, the Generals line up caught fire in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to break the game open 6-0. The team eventually scored two more runs in the final four innings, amassing four doubles in the contest, totaling eight runs in the game.

Tyler Philips (Hancock, NY), Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY), Chris Rave (Middletown, NY), Christian Malave (Milford, CT) and Matt Lichtman (Smithtown, NY) benefitted from the extra base hits for the Generals, each collecting an RBI in the game. Phillips, Rave and Lichtman stood out at the plate, seeing each player finish 2-for-4.

The Generals final two games of their spring trip are on Wednesday (3/18). They’ll face Oakton Community College at Chain of Lakes Park in a doubleheader. Oakton is 1-4 going into the game with a start time of 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. for each game.
