Baseball wins all four games in weekend series with Hawks
(Justin Kiesow hit his first home run of the season in game one against the Hawks, it was a three-run blast to left field).
HERKIMER, NY – Hosting two more games on Sunday (4/24) - this time against Mohawk Valley - the #10 Herkimer Generals baseball team collected two more wins – defeating the Hawks 9-0 and 11-1.
Herkimer (24-8, 19-1) had the tone set in game one with Joe DeSarro (Frankfort, NY) on the mound. The right hander had a perfect game going through the third inning before Mohawk Valley managed to get a runner on base. The sophomore ended up with his first shutout of the season after seven innings, allowing four hits in a complete game effort. It helped him to his fifth win of the season.
With DeSarro in command, the offense didn’t need much to get its 17th consecutive win. Ending up with nine hits against two Hawk pitchers. The big blow came in the fifth inning after Justin Kiesow (Frankfort, NY) hit his first home run of the season to left-centerfield. It scored three of the Generals seven runs in the inning, watching Christian Malave (Milford, CT), Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY) and Petar Rumora (Palisades Park, NJ) also collect RBIs in game one. Malave led the group with two, while both Dorrian and Rumora each had one.
The team then easily got its 18th win of the season in five innings, 10-run ruling Mohawk Valley in game two. On the mound was Greg Musk (Rotterdam, NY). He went the entire game, only allowing one earned run from six hits. The left hander also struck out seven batters for his fourth win of the season (4-0).
Offensively, the team hit three home runs in game two. Another came from Kiesow, collecting six runs batted in on the day. Elviz Belen (Putnam Valley, NY) and Dorrian were the other two Generals to go yard. Belen’s was a solo shot, helping the freshman to his third RBI of the season. Dorrian’s was a two-run shot which ended the game. It helped the short stop finish the weekend against the Hawks with six runs batted in and three extra base hits, going 9-for-15 at the plate (.600).
Herkimer will continue their regular season on Tuesday (4/26). The team will host Jefferson Community College in a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m. The Cannoneers will be one of the better teams the Generals have faced this season, currently 15-13 on the season which has them as one of the better teams in the Region III.
